Pittsburgh Theological Seminary

The Master Planning effort by DRAW was guided by an over-riding theme: Strengthen the Core. Develop the Edge.

The Seminary is located on a 13-acre campus in the East Liberty / Highland Park section of the City of Pittsburgh and the building inventory comprises approximately 330,000 SF in nine buildings.

The overall objective of the campus master plan was to right size the facility, make better use of open space, address student housing and create better connectivity with the neighborhood. In order to achieve the master plan goals, a number of buildings were identified to be removed or renovated. New buildings will be constructed and the campus open spaces will be enhanced along with the addition of better connectivity to the neighborhood.

The Master Plan included:
• Planning Horizon of 10 and 25 Years • Needs of the Institution
• Mission and Objectives of the Institution • Ten-Year Development Envelope
• Existing Property and Uses • Twenty-Five-Year Development

In their IMP, the Seminary sought ways to improve connections with the surrounding neighborhood. Connections to surrounding community are preferred when master planning the future of campuses in the heart of Pittsburgh.
