Electrician's Training Facility
Electrician’s Power House
The Western Central Pennsylvania Electrician’s Training Center, designed for IBEW Local 712, was created to support the training and development of future electricians. The facility provides traditional classrooms alongside hands-on lab spaces, giving trainees a balanced learning environment.
A key focus of the design was to promote how lighting can be used to highlight not only the building interior and exterior spaces for function, but to improve the experience of those using the spaces.
The building doubles as a learning tool, with its exposed mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components intentionally revealed to help students understand real-world installation conditions. Features such as prominent data closets in the main commons, exposed wall cavities, and selectively open ceiling areas offer constant opportunities for visual learning.
The building design supports the union’s educational mission through a mix of collaborative classrooms, small breakout rooms, and dedicated lab spaces where students can develop practical skills
